MacBook Deals

cheap macbook deals

In July 2019, Apple stopped selling the 12-inch MacBook on its website and in its stores, but you can still get it from third-party resellers. There are plenty of reasons to opt for it, too. Compared to the Air, not only is the MacBook’s screen smaller, but the device is also extremely thin and light. It hasn’t been updated since 2017, but it has the modern Mac look, including the large trackpad, butterfly-style keyboard, Retina display, and simplified port selection. Aside from a headphone jack, the laptop comes with just a single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port. That means you can’t plug in a wired mouse and power at the same time, for example, unless you have an adapter.

The most recent version from 2017 received a bump to dual-core, seventh-generation Kaby Lake Intel processors. Like the MacBook Air, we found it to be fast enough to get through a normal day of productivity and web browsing. We’d recommend one of the newer MacBook Airs to most people, but for those who want the absolute smallest, most portable MacBook, this is your best option.

Amazon is currently selling the professionally Renewed and warranty-backed 2017 12-inch MacBook for as low as $500, which gets you an Intel Core m3 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.

MacBook Air Deals

Before 2018, the MacBook Air hadn’t received a serious update for many years. The iconic silver look may have been revolutionary in 2012, but its thick bezels and lower-resolution screen had become outdated over the years. There have thankfully been a couple of revisions since then, but we can still recommend this reasonably recent 2017 model to people who have basic everyday needs and don’t want to shell out for a Pro. Its Intel Core processor and 8GB RAM will ensure it won’t feel too long in the tooth in 2020, even if it isn’t sporting the upgrades of the newer units. It’s also the cheapest way into the MacBook ecosystem, and that alone makes it worth your consideration.

If you’re in the market for a slightly older model and are willing to buy refurbished (in nearly like-new condition and backed by a warranty since it’s Amazon Renewed) so you can save some cash, the 2017 MacBook Air below is going for around $405 including delivery at the moment — a steal at this price.

In the middle of 2019, Apple gave the MacBook Air a complete makeover, bringing it up to speed with the rest of its MacBooks. These  2019 and 2020 revisions have a new look — thinner bezels, a smaller chassis, higher-resolution display, USB-C, as well as new color options like gold and space gray. The new MacBook Air also has some of the mainstays of modern Apple laptops such as the low-travel keyboard, oversized trackpad, and Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The Air saw some hardware updates in 2020 too, including the addition of the newer 10th-gen Intel Core CPUs as well as the introduction of Apple’s own new M1 processor. We found it more than capable of handling day-to-day tasks, just don’t expect to be editing 4K video on it. That said, that MI CPU is pretty amazing and punches well above its weight. It has the best battery life of all the MacBooks, and also comes with the lowest starting price of around $1,000 right now.

If you’re in the market for a new M1 MacBook Air, then you can currently can enjoy a welcome discount off the usual price that knocks it down to $930. This deal gets you the superb new M1 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD — perfect specs for an everyday laptop.

16-inch MacBook Pro Deals

It had been rumored for months, but there was still a sense of excitement when Apple finally unveiled the 16-inch MacBook Pro in October 2021. Many of the rumored features — the new M1X new chip, mini-LED displays, and no Touch Bar — proved to be correct.

That means this is probably the biggest upgrade to the MacBook Pro line since it was redesigned in 2019. This is a powerful new machine. During the launch event, Apple claimed the CPU in their new chips, the M1 Pro and M1 Max, can deliver up to 70% faster performance If you’re a pro and need power, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the one to get.

Right now you can pre-order the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, and they will ship starting on October 26. The retail price is $2,499, and you get a 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Upgraded models are available at $2,699 and $3,499.

14-inch MacBook Pro Deals

The MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch.

Apple announced their newest laptop size at the Apple “Unleashed” Event in October 2021. The new 14-inch is an upgrade from the 13-inch model, with enough differences that Apple will continue to sell the 13-inch for the time being. Apple has removed the Touch Bar on the 14-inch (and the new 16-inch) in favor of a more classic row of function keys. This new model is all about power.

The base model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro is available for pre-order with shipping dates in late October 2021, and it retails at $2,000. It includes an 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. The enhanced power comes from Apple’s newly designed M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Apple boasted a 70% increase in performance between their M1 chip and the new Pro and Max versions. The Max chip will probably only be useful to video editors and game designers, but everyone will notice the increased speed of the Pro.

The new 14-inch comes with some standard redesigns. The edges of the laptop are now flat and squared off instead of rounded like previous models. The display is 3024 x 1964 native resolution at 254 pixels per inch (ppi). There’s a new notch in the top of the screen, which is bound to turn some users off. If you aren’t sure which model you want, compare the 14-inch vs. 16-inch MacBook Pros.

13-inch MacBook Pro Deals

With its more powerful specs, the MacBook Pro represents the top of the MacBook lineup. These are laptops for people who want to run heavy applications such as Photoshop or Lightroom — or even just for people who want to multitask like nobody’s business. However, there are several important distinctions you should be aware of, even concerning the 13-inch models.

The 13-inch MacBook still has the Touch Bar that Apple removed in their most recent laptops. The Touch Bar is a slim OLED touchscreen that takes the place of the function keys and is purpose-built for navigating MacOS and its software — but it’s admittedly not for everyone, so if you’d prefer a MacBook Pro without it, then you’ll have to opt for a last-gen model from 2017 or earlier or the newest generation of 2021 models.

Right now, you can score has this refurbished 13-inch non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro in renewed condition from 2017. For $529, you get an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, a 128GB SSD (the 256GB model is also on sale if you need a little more storage), and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. It’s a great deal if you want to save yourself some cash by going without the Touch Bar.

Apple updated the 13-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 to come with the latest-generation Intel processors, with slight speed bumps to both the base clock and Turbo Boost speeds. With the MacBook Pro 16 on the market now, prices of last-gen and smaller-sized MacBook Pro models have been slashed.

You can now save hundreds on the 13-inch MacBook Pro complete with Touch Bar from early 2020 by buying this nicely specced unit at a discount that brings its price down to $950. That gives you a quad-core Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256B SSD. The new 2020 MacBook Pro with M1 chips were recently released and we’ll be posting any worthy discounts for those as they appear, but if you want a deal, then buying this still-excellent Intel Core model is the surest way to save right now.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro was given a couple refreshes for 2020. Although innovative, Apple isn’t exactly a company known for re-inventing the wheel — it typically sticks to a good design once it’s found it — and the first 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro update wasn’t an exception to this rule, featuring a very similar overall aesthetic to previous models (outdated bezels and all) with some modest hardware updates under the hood. One major noteworthy upgrade is the new Magic Keyboard, which is fantastic. It’s comfortable, it’s quiet, and it even has a proper escape key this time around. The second update, however, added Apple’s fantastic new M1 CPU to the lineup.

This model packs that eight-core M1 CPU along with 8GB of RAM and a snappy 256GB SSD, pairing what are pretty much ideal specs for an everyday laptop with the sort of quality you’d typically associate with the Pro line. You can grab the new 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro for $1,170, which is one of the better prices we’ve seen for this new model.

The best MacBook deals and sales right now

MacBook deals can be found everywhere this month. In fact, we're currently seeing some of the best MacBook deals of the year with never-before-seen discounts on all of Apple's M1-based MacBooks. So if you're in the market for a new MacBook, now is an excellent time to make a purchase.

Best MacBook deals right now

MacBook deals and Black Friday

Chances are you aren't thinking of Black Friday deals right now. However, the retail holiday is just weeks away and it's bound to offer the best MacBook deals of the year. To date, the MacBook Air has dropped to an all-time low of $749 this year. (It was a Best Buy student-only deal). Unfortunately, we don't expect to see that price point again. However, we do expect to see the MacBook Air selling for $799 at multiple retailers. Likewise, you can expect to see the MacBook Pro get from a $200 to $300 discount in November.

How to find the best MacBook deals

Amazon and Best Buy tend to offer the best MacBook deals. The MacBook Air M1 and the MacBook Pro M1 tend to see from $50 to $200 off discounts. However, we've noticed that Amazon offers slightly better MacBook sales that its competitors. For instance, the new M1 MacBook Air has dropped to $899 a few times at Amazon.

If you're looking for deals on previous-gen MacBooks, B&H Photo is a good place to start, particularly because they usually have stock of the older MacBooks. However, keep in mind that the new MacBook Air M1 is the better bargain (especially if it's on sale). That said, B&H Photo usually has the 2020 Intel MacBook Air on sale from $949 to $869.

The best cheap MacBook Pro deals, prices and sales in October 2021

It can be difficult to find truly cheap MacBook Pro deals. These are premium machines and the jewel in Apple's lineup of luxury laptops. That means they don't tend to lose too much of their value. However, recent price drops have shown us that MacBook Pro deals aren't as rare these days as they once were.

MacBook Pro prices already start pretty high, which does give retailers plenty of scope for discounting during sales periods. However, demand is equally high for these machines - which means fewer cheap MacBook Pro deals during the rest of the year.

That's not to say a discount isn't out there, though - in fact, we've seen the latest M1 range of MacBook Pros pretty much constantly on sale since release. And these offers should repeat over Black Friday 2021.

You want the best there is, but there's no reason to pay more than you should for it. If you want to save some money you could check out the other non-Pro MacBook deals or maybe even a standard cheap laptop deal. We're also showing you how to make the most of cheap MacBook Pro trade-in schemes and student discounts further down the page as well. Plus, you may find additional savings up for grabs soon courtesy of the upcoming Black Friday MacBook deals and Apple Black Friday deals.

The best 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 (2020) deals

The most powerful 13-inch Pro on the market

CPU: Apple M1 chip - 8 cores | Graphics: 8 core GPU | RAM: 8GB - 16GB | Screen: 13-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61-inches

Powerful new M1 chip

Fan cooling will make for better performance

17 hours battery life

Higher price tag

The new M1 MacBook Pro offers a stark upgrade in processing power, and at a similar price range to the previous 2020 13-inch Intel model. Overall, it's a better buy, especially seeing as those MacBook Pro prices do match fairly frequently. However, you might find MacBook Pro deals hitting the earlier model more now that this beast is in the wild.

That means you'll want to decide whether you go for a potentially cheaper price point with the previous generation or a considerable performance upgrade with Apple's own chip. We've already seen some surprise price cuts over Black Friday - mere weeks after the latest MacBook Pro was released, however, which means the latest model may be more affordable than you think. Plus, with cheap MacBook Pro deals landing on these models as we move into 2021, things are looking particularly affordable right now.

The new MacBook certainly delivers on Apple's promise of a revolutionary experience. Performance sees a considerable boost from the new M1 hardware, even running legacy apps designed for previous Intel machines. Things still look pretty similar from the outside, but you're running a serious powerful machine here, with a price that even manages to undercut other high end ultrabooks in value.

The best 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro deals

The last Intel release

CPU: 8th - 10th generation Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics | RAM: 8GB - 32GB | Screen: 13-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61-inches

More starter storage

New keyboard

8th generation processors in entry level

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is the model of choice for most creative professionals due to its balance between power and affordability, so it's understandable that some frustration has already arisen from the baseline model's use of an 8th generation Intel processor. Entry level buyers, therefore, will be working with a pretty old CPU that may not be able to hack the latest heavy duty programs. However, with improved RAM speeds, double the storage on offer, and an improved keyboard all at the same price as 2019's instalment, the trade off may well be worth it.

If you're willing to put some cash on the table, however, you can boost the 13-inch MacBook Pro up to the latest 10th generation of Intel processors with up to 4TB of SSD storage, marking a return to the tiny powerhouse many have found in previous iterations.

We've already seen some cheap MacBook Pro deals hitting this 2020 release, and more are sure to be on their way as the M1 model ages over the year, so there's plenty of scope to score yourself a discount.

The best 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro deals

A beast of a MacBook with the launch price to match

CPU: 6-core - 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 – i9 | Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M – 5500M, Intel UHD Graphics 630 | RAM: 16GB – 64GB | Screen: 16-inch, 3072 x 1920 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 1.62 x 35.79 x 24.59cm

Incredible display specifications

Massive RAM and SSD configurations

Apple's most powerful MacBook yet

Painfully expensive

Reduced portability

The 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro was released to replace the 15-inch model from earlier in the year, and it does far more than just add some centimeters to the display. Running an 8-core 9th generation i9 processor with 64GB of RAM and an 8TB SSD must feel nice, and while it's exciting that it's possible, that's a spec on its way to setting you back around $5,800. Nevertheless, this brand new MacBook is capable of blisteringly fast speeds even down to its most humble configuration (the little 6-core 9th gen i9 processor that could).

There are massive specs on offer here, but keeping all that power in place is a larger 16-inch chassis with an improved keyboard and a brighter, more intelligent Retina display. There's a lot going inside, so it's a good thing the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro also boasts the largest battery capacity of any MacBook ever released, offering up to 11 hours of wireless use. While the battery does support an on-the-go workflow, the MacBook Pro weighs in at a hefty 2kg - and with that extra screen size you might think twice about lugging it around in a backpack all day.

This is no cheap MacBook Pro, but it is an impressive feat of laptop development. While the most powerful configurations are outside the scope of most peoples' wallets, you may be able to find enough loose change to invest in one of the more realistic models. MacBook Pro sales have seen $300 - $400 being cut off the MSRP as well, so there are deals to be had if you're keen.

The best 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro deals

Slightly cheaper than the 16-inch

CPU: 9th-generation Intel Core i7 – i9 | Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 555X – 560X, Intel UHD Graphics 630 | RAM: 16GB – 32GB | Screen: 15.4-inch, 2,880 x 1,800 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 34.93 x 24.07 x 1.55cm

New 9th-gen i7/i9 processors

Sky-high configurations available

Still fairly expensive

Lacks older ports

The 15-inch 2019 MacBook Pro isn't currently on sale at Apple, however you'll still find it on the shelves at a handful of retailers, particularly in the US. The price reflects a cheaper offer than the later 16-inch model, but you're picking up a fair amount of power.

If you've got the cash, the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro 2019 can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM with an 8-core 9th-gen i9 processor. Even the entry model on the Apple store comes packing a 6-core i7, 256GB SSD and 16GB of RAM.

If you're involved in the creative arts, digital design or engineering, then you might find Apple's latest is more than up to the task of the increasingly demanding apps and programs. Plus, you can save a little over the more expensive 16-inch model as well, which typically offers a much higher cost even in cheap MacBook Pro sales.

The best 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro deals

A cheap mid-range MacBook Pro

CPU: 8th generation i5-i7 | Graphics: Radeon Pro 555X - Pro Vega 20 | RAM: 8 - 16GB | Screen: 13.3-inch, 2560 x 1600 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 34.92 x 24.07 x 1.55cm

Mid-range specs for a good price

Touchbar and Retina display

Fairly up to date components

The 13-inch 2019 MacBook Pro offers up one of the cheapest ways for entry level buyers to get their hands on a luxury laptop in 2021. Prices have dropped nicely now that we're two generations ahead - however stock levels are taking a hit as retailers gradually reduce their shelving space for such an old model. That means there will likely be some healthy MacBook Pro deals on traditionally more expensive configurations, but you might have to hunt to secure stock.

This might still not be considered a cheap MacBook Pro, then, but you will be getting more powerful specs at a price point the newer devices won't be able to match.

The cheapest 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro prices

A little older but big storage on offer for less

CPU: Quad-core Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 13.3-inch, (2,560 x 1,600) IPS | Storage: 128GB – 2TB PCIe 3.0 SSD | Touch Bar: Yes (on most models)
