How to Open the BIOS on a Hewlett-Packard Computer

Whether your business has one computer or many, it's good to have a person on staff who can handle basic computer tasks, such as accessing a computer's BIOS, or Boot Input/Output System. The BIOS is the startup firmware that controls when and how the operating system is started up, as well as in what order the applications are booted. Whether you're looking to change the boot order of some of the applications or manage other bootup aspects, you can access the BIOS for a Hewlett-Packard computer with a few simple actions.

Click the "Start" button, and then click "Shut Down." Wait five seconds.

Restart the computer by pressing the "Power" button.

Press the "F10" key repeatedly as the computer starts up. If nothing happens, press the "F1" key. According to HP, one of these two buttons should boot the BIOS.

  • According to the My Digital Life website, you may also be able to open the BIOS by pressing "F2," "F12" or "Esc" during the startup process, depending on the model of the HP computer.

I see from the post that you want to know how to enter into bios on your HP Envy Touchsmart notebook. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, the keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.

Turn on or restart the computer.
While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.

Or While turning on the computer, start tapping Esc key continuously until you see the startup menu, On the startup menu, click on F10 to enter into the Bios screen.

Pre-UEFI, before 2008 for most models

With the computer turned Off, press the power button to turn On the computer, and repeatedly press the F10 key. Normally, the Compaq or HP splash screen will display a message to press F10 to enter the BIOS just before the BIOS menu is displayed.

UEFI enabled, 2008 to mid 2011 for most models

If the computer has the UEFI pre-BIOS environment, when the Compaq or HP splash screen displays, you are prompted to press Escape to enter Start Up Menu. Then there is a prompt to press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.

Because of the different types of CPUs and BIOS configurations, it may be possible to turn On the power and press F10 for the BIOS without going through the UEFI Start Up Menu.

Shortened enabled, 2008 to mid 2011 for most models

To help computers start faster, on some models the Compaq or HP splash screen is not displayed during the start up process. In this case, after pressing the power button, repeatedly press the Esc key to enter the Start Up Menu, and follow the prompt to press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
