‘Archer’ Renewed for Season 13 on FXX

Logo text

We swear we had something for this: Archer is getting a 13th season on FXX.

The Emmy-winning animated comedy will return sometime in 2022 for eight episodes.

The move follows the passing of co-star Jessica Walter in March. Walter voiced Malory Archer on the series since its first episode. The loss will be creatively addressed in the show’s new episodes.

“Archer remains one of FX’s signature series and we are happy to extend its legacy with another globetrotting season,” said Nick Grad, president original programming at FX. “Like Sterling Archer himself, Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions are endlessly creative and always find a way to surpass themselves. Our thanks to them and the incredible voice cast who keep this fan favorite spy comedy as fresh and exciting as ever.”

Archer‘s 12th season (which includes Walter) is currently airing and its seventh episode debuts Wednesday night. Next season’s episodes will likewise premiere on FXX and be available to stream the next day on FX on Hulu.

Archer is a half-hour comedy that follows Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) as he navigates the changing landscape of the spy world. In the current season, Archer and gang go up against a spy conglomerate known as IIA (International Intelligence Agency).

As of October 6, 2021,[update] 126 episodes of Archer have aired, concluding the twelfth season. On September 28, 2021, FXX renewed the series for a thirteenth season.[2]

Archer Season 12 Release Date, Cast, And Plot - What We Know So Far

As far as who will return, we don't have any reason to believe anyone from Archer's regular cast will be missing. Looper interviewed a number of the actors who make up the voice talent on the series including lead H. Jon Benjamin (Sterling Archer), Amber Nash (Pam Poovey), Lucky Yates (Dr. Krieger), and Chris Parnell (Cyril Figgis). None of them seem anything but eager to keep yapping in the "Danger Zone." Likewise, we'd expect the return of Judy Greer as Cheryl, and Aisha Tyler as Sterling's on-again, off-again lady love Lana.

Fans of Archer – and comedy, in general — are likely already aware of Jessica Walter's sudden death this year at the age of 80. Walter has been the pitch-perfect voice of Mallory Archer since back in season 1, and she leaves behind impossible heels to fill. Fortunately, Deadline reports that she concluded all of her voice work on season 12 of Archer before her death, so fans will have one last bittersweet hurrah with a legend whenever new episodes finally do air.

Then there are the epic guest stars Archer is known for. While Simon Pegg's character Aleister doesn't survive season 11, we could see the return of Stephen Toblowsky as Lana's oversharing billionaire husband Robert. With Sterling's new respect for Barry, it's more than likely we'll see Dave Willis return as the cyborg.

Of course, if season 12 unfolds like earlier fare, we'll probably get some great surprise guests. If the Archer cast had their picks, we'd probably be hearing again from Christian Slater, Kenny Loggins and Peter Serafinowicz

Archer Season 11 Cast

Archer stars H. Jon Benjamin as the titular spy. The rest of the cast is made up of Aisha Tyler as fellow spy Lana, Chris Parnell as the newly confident Cyril Figgis, Amber Nash as former (and maybe current?) HR director Pam Poovey, Judy Greer as the “surprisingly well-adjusted” Cheryl/Carol Tunt, Adam Reed as the exhausting Ray, Lucky Yates as truly mad scientist Krieger, and Jessica Walter as Archer’s mother Mallory.

Archer Season 11 News

While season 11 was a long wait for Archer fans, it was an even longer wait for Sterling Archer himself. Recall that the superspy has not actually been in the land of the living since 2016 when Archer season 7 ended. That year concluded with Archer riddled with bullets, face down in a Hollywood pool. The following seasons featured Archer’s elaborate “coma” dreams.

Season 8 was Archer: Dreamland, a noir-tinged hardboiled detective story. Season 9 was Archer: Danger Island, a swashbuckling adventure. Season 10 was Archer: 1999, an Alien-esque space story. In Archer season 11, however, Sterling is finally returning to both the real world and the spy world. Per FXX’s plot description:

“While many things changed during his absence, Archer is confident it will take just a little time for him to reset things back to the old ways. The problem: does the rest of the team want that? Everyone else has been doing pretty well and may not be ready for his return to throw a wrench in their well-oiled machine.

When will be Archer next episode air date? Is Archer renewed or cancelled? Where to countdown Archer air dates? Is Archer worth watching?

Archer is an animated, half-hour comedy that revolves around an international spy agency and the lives of its employees. Although their work of espionage, reconnaissance missions, wiretapping and undercover surveillance is daunting and dangerous, every covert operation and global crisis is actually just another excuse for the staff to undermine, sabotage and betray each other for personal gain. The series features the voices of H. Jon Benjamin as the highly skilled and incredibly vain master spy "Sterling Archer;" Aisha Tyler as Archer's fellow agent and ex-girlfriend, "Lana Kane;" Jessica Walter as Archer's domineering mother and spy agency director, "Malory Archer;" Chris Parnell as the easily intimidated comptroller-turned secret agent "Cyril Figgis;" Judy Greer as Malory's loquacious, dingbat secretary, "Cheryl;" Amber Nash as the discordant director of human resources, "Pam Poovey;" Adam Reed as the gay voice of reason, "Ray Gillette;" and Lucky Yates as the spy agency's possibly mad scientist/ possibly clone of himself, "Krieger." List of episodes

The eleventh season of the animated television series Archer debuted on FXX on September 16, 2020.[1]

Production[edit]

The eleventh season was scheduled to premiere on May 6, 2020,[2] but was postponed until September 16, 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.[3][1]

Synopsis[edit]

The series begins with Archer waking up from his coma, returning to the real world of his activities as a spy.[4] However, since he has been in a coma for three years, much has changed and Archer must adjust to it, albeit with much reluctance.

The series’ setting is once again New York, following the seventh season (the last season that was not a product of Archer’s coma dreams), which took place in Los Angeles.
