Thorn Damage for Wizard?

Uh, no.

Thorns wizard isn’t a thing. Thorns does almost zero damage, outside of a few specific thorns builds for other classes (e.g. Invoker crusader, Necromancer thorns pets). Wizard doesn’t have any viable thorns builds.

You want intelligence, crit chance, and crit damage everywhere. As well as elemental damage (e.g. 20% fire, 20% cold etc.) for the main element used by your build in the slots that it can roll (bracers, amulet).

Your gear and build are a bit of a mess, I would suggest reading some build guides. But for now, focus on getting more crit chance and crit damage. Those are two of the best damage stats to stack. Pretty much every build you can imagine wants crit chance and crit damage everywhere you can get it. You helm, for example, you should have rolled armor into crit chance, not rolled a secondary to thorns. Your bracers you should have rolled armor into elemental damage (whatever the element of your main damage skill is).

Crusader Invoker Thorns Build

The Thorns of the Invoker set unlocks a powerful, retaliation-based playstyle with what used to be the laughing stock of stats, Thorns. This tanky, utility and cooldown-oriented playstyle is designed towards Greater Rift solo progression, but we also have a speed farming variation.

The basic skill setup of the Invoker Thorns Crusader is displayed below. Read the dedicated Skills page for detailed information on choices, alternatives and build customization.

The required gear setup for the Invoker Thorns Crusader is listed below. Check the Gear page for detailed information on choices, alternatives, gemming, Kanai's Cube and Paragon distribution.

How does Thorns work?

After doing some research, I have reached a few conclusions, plus found how the approximate damage works.

Thorns return damage does not depend on how much damage the attack against you does. It's calculated by your base thorns times a multiplier based on your primary stat. The multiplier is one quarter of the bonus provided to your attacking damage. For example, if you have 20, thorns, and 6, strength, then you'll get % bonus thorns damage ( / 4 as a percentage), which amounts to , thorns damage to enemies when they attack you (20, base plus , bonus from primary stat). This can then crit based on your normal crit chance and crit damage.

All of the insanely high damage numbers occur using the Iron Skin skill with the Reflective Skin rune, which appears to be bugged currently and do lots of wonky stuff (including killing allied Crusaders).

Kanai's Cube

Don't know how to describe it. I've tried several thorns build but this one turns out to be the best possible way for solo push. I've done a greater rift lvl for now with these items equipped and with this build. Video link will be up soon.

If you have a good VTS (Vo'Toyias Spiker) then equip it but if you have or get a better AA (Akkarats awekening) then change it around.

IF you get a perfectly rolled item then roll as much THORNS damage as you can in secondary stats because the more thorns you have the more damage you deal!

Build Guide

I've used this build in groups. As you are single-target focused you deal tons of damage against elites and rift bosses so this is where you will shine with your crusader. It is of course best for solo but can be played as a part of a group. VIDEO LINK WILL COME!
