What the developers have to say:
“Gloomhaven is based on the hugely popular physical board game of the same name and features 17 playable characters, 47 enemy classes and a campaign with 95 scenarios. To put it bluntly, it’s an absolute behemoth! To release everything all at once would be a challenge to say the least.
For the digital version, we are gradually adding all of this content in our brand-new version of the game called Guildmaster. It features the exact same core gameplay as the board game with the same character and enemies but with over a hundred of new scenarios to play and mercenaries’ stories to follow.
All this combined means that we have a unique experience for both players new to Gloomhaven, as well as the most dedicated fans, with the ability to gradually extend the content as we progress through development. As the crowning finale, at full launch, we will include the full legacy campaign from the physical board game and our unique Guildmaster campaign, filled with all the playable characters and enemies.
Without a doubt, the best thing about this approach is that we get to make the game alongside the community. We know that you all share our passion for Gloomhaven and we are excited to be able to develop this game together to make the best possible digital adaptation of Gloomhaven!” “We are planning to be in Early Access for more than a year as we want to work side by side with the community to create more new features and unique content, including that which doesn’t already exist within the board game.” “During Early Access we will be adding more playable characters, items, enemies, bosses and environments to the Guildmaster mode. We plan to bring all the content from the original board game — and even more with digital exclusive enemies and bosses.
Isaac Childres, designer of the original board game, has been closely involved in the development and design of the digital adaptation, with every artistic and design choice vetted by him.
At full launch, we will deliver the complete board game campaign experience to the digital edition.
If you have purchased the early access, all additional full launch content will be free.” “We now have 14 playable characters and all enemy classes —with both standard and elite variants—and 7 bosses to take on, all through our Guildmaster campaign. You will be able to explore an entirely new map created with the assistance of Isaac Childres, completing dungeons, unlocking new locations and completing story missions for each of the characters in your Guild.” “We will increase the price of the game at full launch, as we offer more features and the campaign. Those who purchased during Early Access will not be charged extra at full release.
Also, the price of the game during Early Access won’t increase due to the additional content added during its development.” “We love building games with the community and are keen to involve our players in as many ways as possible. We will have beta branches available for players to test and provide us with feedback on the latest updates, along with ongoing discussions on Steam and Discord around design ideas and feedback. We are also providing modding support and a custom scenario Level Editor for those keen to create their own content.”

I've never played the Gloomhaven Boardgame so i did a deep dive, not really prepared.

This IS a complex beast.

The Tutorial is more of a puzzle and if you take your time, it will take more than 2 hours to go thru with it, keep that in mind if you want a chance to refund it. Maybe watch a video on YT first before palying (digital) Gloomhaven at all.

Once it clicks and the tutorial guy lets you off the leash you kinda know half what you can do and the game really opens up.

Well it clicked with me and i'm having a blast. Clocking in around 15 hours now and still having the feeling of only touched the surface. I like that!

This game is time consuming, at least at the start until you know, what you do. After that you can play a quick adventure here and there and build your guild & toons up.

Good Luck!

I love the board game, and this is a faithful adaptation. Lots of fun to try out the classes I didn't play in the physical game.
Tutorial is Terrible. Reviving Ether.
I've had to go to Youtube for almost every tutorial episode. I can't figure out the Spellweaver one AT ALL. How do you get Reviving Ether back? In all the tutorials it says burn Freezing Nova, but it always says Burn Reviving Ether in my tutorial when I short rest....
Why am I starting each scenario in the game with 3 curses?
My friend and I started a new campaign and every scenario we have played (5) have started the scenario with 3 curses. When did this bug start happening?
Will all characters from the tabletop version be avilable
Right now we only got 7 character classes, but the full roster from tabletop version has 24 characters, right ? Will we be able to play as all of these eventually in this game ?
Isn't Retaliation nonsense? I understand it when the enemy AI is using it but once you use it they have 3 options: Attack someone else from your party Attack from a distance or Not attack at all Whatever you do it seems the enemies will never recieve retaliation damage ^^ so you can only use it like a shield to avert damage from the char which is using it but not to do any damage to the enemy. Isn't that dodging its purpose? I do not know if there are aoe aggro abilities later on but this was my experie...

Gloomhaven Digital update adds online co-op mode, campaign coming next year

Form an adventuring party with friends in the latest update for the digital version of Gloomhaven, now with co-op multiplayer.

Players will be able to explore the lands and dungeons in and around the city of Gloomhaven together in the new co-op game mode. Capable of supporting up to four players, Gloomhaven Digital’s co-op enables players to travel across the world as a party, fighting monsters and gathering loot together. This update will allow players to manage their mercenary guild, level-up their characters and much more, as a multiplayer experience.

Forming a party requires one player to create a game and invite whoever they want into their session. Should the player hosting the game decide to leave, the other players will still be able to play the game in their absence.

On top of the co-op mode, the Gloomhaven app has received some new enemies in the latest update. The six new enemy types include various elemental demons - such as the Flame Demon and Frost Demon - as well as the Savvaas Lavaflow and Icestorm monsters. In addition, players can also explore three new environments, loot 10 new items and accept 25 new Guildmaster missions.

Gloomhaven Digital challenges players to delve into various lairs and other similarly dangerous locations on the hunt for spoils or in order to achieve set objectives. However, players will have to encounter packs of enemies that are hungry for bloodshed in order to reach their prize. Combat in Gloomhaven has players drawing cards and managing abilities, with the threat of exhaustion forcing them to carefully plan their moves.

The original tabletop version of Gloomhaven was released in 2017 to critical acclaim, becoming one of the best board games of the last few years. Unlike its video game version, the board game contains an entire campaign for players to experience - with opportunities to make narrative decisions that affect the game’s story-arc.

Earlier this year, a standalone spin-off title called Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion was released, offering a shorter and more straightforward version of the original game. Frosthaven, the sequel to Gloomhaven, is the next entry in the series and is set to be released in March 2021 - after having the most successful Kickstarter for a board game in the crowdfunding site’s history.

According to Asmodee Digital, the company behind the digital version of Gloomhaven, players can expect to see various updates come to the video game over the next few months. These updates will lead up to the game’s complete launch - having been in early access since 2019 - which will include the addition of a full campaign mode in 2021.

The digital version of Gloomhaven is currently available at a discounted price, with players able to get the game for $17 (£13) until September 21st.
