What are Clock Inserts

Insert clocks or fit-ups are pre assembled quartz clocks that include the clock movement, dial, hands, lens and bezel already fully assembled and ready to install in your clock case. All insert clocks are listed based on the outside diameter, or edge to edge size of the visible part. The mounting hole sizes will vary and are listed with each part.

Fit Ups 1 Inch Range

FitUps One Inch Range is comprised of two groups of 1-7/16 inch diameter, both of which will install into a common 1-3/8 inch hole size. The Standard category consists of 8 models with either Roman, Arabic or bold Arabic numbers and gold bezels.

The Designer group consists of 5 models with unique dials and black, gold or antique bronze bezels. All of these models also fit into a 1-3/8 inch mounting hole size. Also available are thermometers and hygrometers with white dials, and gold bezels. These also fit into a 1-3/8 inch mounting hole size. These insert clocks all use Seiko PC21 watch movements and use a common #377 battery, which is included.

Fit Ups 2 Inch Range

Fit Ups Two Inch Range includes our 2 inch standard inserts and photo frames that fit into a 1-7/8 inch mounting hole size. We also have 2 inch premium inserts that have solid brass cases and fit into 1/3/8 inch mounting holes. All of these inserts use a Seiko PC21 watch movements with a common #377 battery, which is included.

The next size is our 2-1/4 inch. There are 7 different dials with a choice of gold, black or silver bezels. That’s a lot to choose from. These 2-1/4 inch operate on one common AAA battery and fit into a 2-1/8 inch mounting hole size.

The 2-3/4 inch Economy are one of our most popular sizes. Again there are 7 different dials with a choice of gold, black or silver bezels. That’s a lot to choose from. These 2-3/4 inch inserts operate on one common AAA battery and fit into a 2-3/8 inch mounting hole size.

We are also introducing a new premium line of 2-3/4 inch. With a choice of 5 popular dials they all feature a polished solid brass bezel and a curved glass lens. They operate on a common AAA battery and use the popular 2-3/8 inch mounting hole size.

Inserts 3 Inch Range

Another large category of insert clocks is Fit Ups Three Inch Range. Starting with our 3-1/16 inch back mounted inserts. This is one of the few insert clocks available that is designed to be mounted from the back of your case.

It’s sister part is the 3-1/4 inch front mounted inserts available with gold, black or matte silver bezels. Both models fit into a 3-1/8 inch mounting hole size.

We also have our 3-1/2 inch size that fits into a 3 inch hole. The standard series features 7 different clock dials available with a choice of gold, black or silver bezels. We also offer 3 new versions with Antique dials. We are also introducing a new premium line of 3-1/2 inch inserts.

Inserts 4 Inch Range

Our largest size insert clocks is the Fit Ups Four Inch Range. We start with our 4 inch economy which operate on one AA battery and fit into a 2-3/8” mounting hole. We offer two new premium sizes; 4-1/8” and 6 inch.

Each new size has a choice of 5 popular dials, and they all feature a polished solid brass bezel and a curved glass lens. They both operate on a common AA battery and use the popular 3-1/8 inch mounting hole size.

The weather instrument category includes our line of “Shower Proof” 1-7/16 inch thermometers and matching insert clocks. We then graduate to our lines of 2-3/4 inch and 3-1/2” individual weather instruments. Barometers, thermometers and hygrometers are available in both sizes with either gold or ivory dials. Matching parts are available for the 2-3/4 inch size.

Our popular tide inserts are available now in the new 3-1/2 and 6 inch sizes, using the same cases as our new premium Inserts. Available with a wide variety of process color dials, they feature polished solid brass bezels and curved glass lenses. They operate on one AA battery and fit into a 3-1`/8 inch mounting hole size.

Friction Fit Clock Inserts

Friction fit clock inserts fit into an existing hole. In other words, drill a hole into any object and just push the clock insert into it. The insert alone will be too loose of a fit so there is a rubber ring on the back side to fill the gap. Sometimes the rings will break or get lost and a simple solution is a rubber band. Slide a rubber band on the backside of the insert and we are good to go! It ends up being a nice fit with some tolerance in the hole diameter requirement.

Colors and Styles

Clockworks provides options for the dial (face) colors and also numeral styles in Arabic or Roman for the friction fit clock insert. For those who do not remember, the Roman numerals are where 12 will be show as XII or Arabic as 12. The new way to express the number 4 in Roman numerals is no longer IV but rather IIII. This is quite disconcerting to some people who grew up with using Roman numerals.

Clock insert construction

Generally speaking, the smaller friction fit clock insert have a more durable construction. Clock inserts with a diameter of 2" or less have a stainless steel back and metal alloy bezel. These small inserts also have a glass lens instead of plastic. In addition, the larger inserts are all made with plastic components. The plastic can scratch. Be careful when cleaning the face of the clock. If it does get a scratch, get a new insert. Replacement lenses for friction fit clock insert are not available . In fact, sometimes when the bezel is taken off, it will not go back on. Some styles do have bezels that screw on and off but for the most part, consider the insert broken if the bezel comes off.
