Buddy of mine just bought a 2002 Chevy Blazer. We were doing some maintainence on it (changing the oil, coolant, tranny fluid) when I was under it I noticed that there was a ground wire just hanging down there. There is the main ground cable coming off the battery and 2 other smaller ground wires. It's one of the smaller ones that is not connected. It was about 3 ft long and probably 16ga and had a loop on the end where it should be bolted to something....the frame....the body....engine block....heck i don't know.

I looked up the wire diagram on Autozone's website (see attached) and it seems to indicate exactly what I'm seeing: 3 grounds coming off the battery. They go to G101, G110, and G106.....well that's all well and good if you know what G101, G110, and G106 actually are. My guess is it's supposed to be for G110 or G106....

little help?

Edit: btw...i just bolted it to the frame so as not to have a ground wire just dangling around. Didn't really think I could screw up by bolting a ground to the frame.

probably too late . 2001 Grand cherokee. starts ,drives but then quits, and won`t start, after a bit,it starts till it quits again, then it goes again ,and on and on. Code 0320 comes up. crank sensor? disconnect battery and reconnect and it would not start. and code was p-0320 again. then still no start so we left it sit.came back reconnect battery and No codes. runs ok,but noticed loose ground strap from engine to firewall.so it tightened up. now no quit issues so far but just idling. It quit before just idling. Now no codes come up and it won`t quit.like before? all because ground to engine or?

With no clarification as to what you have, I'll give you the general rule.

G110 - automatic transfer case/abs ground.

G106 - auxiliary negative battery ground.

G101 - more info needed because its a main ground that manages many things !

Re: Stray ground wire

ALWAYS check under the vehicle after any shop service that might have entailed disconnecting wires.

I once noticed a ground wire dangling under my truck, too. Luckily for me, there was a place near it on the frame showing where the bit HAD been fastened. I put it back there. The guys who had had to remove the original cargo bed (long and weird story) must not have reconnected everything.

These kinds of omissions make yet another good reason to do some of my own routine servicing.

Those multiple grounds and their positioning are quite important. Ground-points can and sometimes do become disconnected, this may cause circuits that are grounded in that specific grounding section to not work.

Sometimes there is not continuity/good continuity between body-sections without a ground-strap connecting the body-sections.......this will cause a difference in potential between those points and current to flow, bad thing. Battery-ground and chassis-ground should be at nearly the same potential at all points on the vehicle.

I well remember that our masters moved away from me, and I ended up under My Signor. Lying on your back with legs wide apart, looking into his eyes. He pressed me tightly to the bed and tore me very quickly. It was the first time I finished that evening. I think I was screaming, but I don't remember exactly that.
