How to Order the Best Weight Loss Program for Busy People! I've tried so many programs to loss weight through the years & Optavia is the easiest programs I've found for this busy mom. Getting down to a healthy weight is important to me. I'd love to share how I'm doing it and how you can, too!

Losing weight and keeping it off has been a struggle for me for years…especially with a few back-to-back pregnancies.That whole “the weight will just melt off when you’re nursing” thing never worked for me. I had to work really hard to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. After my last pregnancy, I discovered Take Shape for Life thanks to my mom.

PLACING YOUR FIRST ORDER

Alrighty! Are you ready? Well, let’s go through a few quick things before we officially get started. The very first thing you want to do is to place your order, so you can get your “meals” on their way to you. It usually takes about 5 to 7 days to receive your order. So, I don’t want to waste any time.

A Few Things to Note Before You Place Your First Order

1) Ordering Dr. A's Habits of Health book and Living a Longer, Healthier Life companion guide are a MUST! Optavia is all about educating you about how to achieve your “optimal” health. Dr. Andersen is the co-founder of Optavia. These two books really are a necessity for your success in this program. When you add them to your first order, you get them at a 25% discount. Please trust me on this!

2) Get a kit your first month, just to keep things easy! It’s actually not that hard to customize your order. I'll explain how when you sign up to get my eBook. However, I just want to make this as simple as possible for you. I suggest the Essential Optimal Kit with the Habits of Health System (5&1 Plan®), mainly because I like the meal selections in it better than the other kits.

3) Sign up for the Optavia Premier program and get 5 FREE boxes of meals & FREE Shipping on your first order!! The program is free! It’s also a great way to never run out of food. Take it from me, since I almost ran out one month because I didn’t order enough food. 

4) Make sure you always order at least 22 “meal” boxes each month. Each box contains 7 meals. You want to make sure you have enough meals for 30 days. You will be eating 5 replacement meals per day. So, that comes out to about 22 boxes per month. I like to have a few extra just in case I’m having a hard day and need an extra meal. This is why you’ll see that I recommend 24 total meal boxes for your first month. Handy Tools to Have on Hand

1)Body Weight Scale— You will be weighing yourself daily. So, you’ll want a good scale to help you measure your success.

2)Food Scale— Part of the Lean & Green diet is measuring your lean protein. If you are eating a protein that fits in the “leanest” category, then you get 7oz. of meat. You will want to make sure you get all your protein for the day. Sometimes you may want to divide up your protein for the day. So, knowing how much you are getting is really important.

3)Fit Bit— This is completely optional. However, I really like knowing how active I’ve been throughout the day. During your first few weeks, you don’t want to do any extra exercise. (I'll explain why in the book.) However, after that timeframe, you will want to start moving a bit. I’ve found that my weight loss plateaus if I do too much activity since I'm consuming so few calories. My FitBit helps me figure this out.

4)Lost It For Life Day by Day Devotionalby Stephen Arterburn — Probably one of the best daily devotionals to go through while dieting. I don't agree with all of his weight loss tips in his book Lose It For Life, but this devotional is great. As a Christian, I believe that the best way to have success with any endeavor is to lean on God for strength. My weight loss endeavor is no different.

Getting started

I am unable to see all of the login on the screen. I am able to see about half of the letters/numbers/symbols. I have an iPhone Pro12 Max. I too would love to see this app replace the transfer to the website rather than still using the regular website all the time. You go from doing things in one app to shifting gears and flipping back and forth, that doesn’t make sense.

Optavia app review

I love it! Makes updating the cart so much easier snd no more “I can’t find your website”:-) would love to see a Food/hydration log and frankly would ultimately even go so far as to say why can’t we integrate BOTH APPS and have the HOH APP integrated with this?! I love the HOH app, however, it can be confusing and frustrating to navigate until totally customizable on the alarms for timing fuelings and ability to add/edit if forgot to log but did actually complete all fuelings & meals that day…but I digress.

A super App would be an all in one just like our all in one access phone number and our all in one access sign in /password access. Keep in simple. ONE APP that does it all. Certainly we have the technology🤷‍♀️😬 AND consider connecting OPTAVIA ANSWERS & COACH ANSWERS (with an ID# PW verification process to access if needed secure) as well. Just think of it…clients have literally everything customized to them, at their finger tips: their health journey HOH APP, their coaches info, their cart/order info, their optavia answers for all those random Q&A needs.

Good start

I like all the recipes and the ability to change portion sizes for individuals or families. It also needs a tracking feature. Where feulings, condiments, water, lean and green can be tracked. Even better would be a feature where you can enter what feuling you want and have the ap notify you when it’s time to have a fueling. Also in the tracking feature. A place to track weight and body measurements. Half this ap seems to be about tracking your order not your progress.

The name "Optavia" may sound like a life-insurance firm or even an eyeglasses brand, but it's actually a popular weight-loss plan from Medifast Inc., the multilevel marketing company previously fined $3.7 million for false advertising.

Named one of the top trending diets in 2018 by Google, Optavia has received an endorsement from a celebrity adherent, too. Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro — most famous for his TV-famous sugary concoctions — attributed his dramatic weight loss to following the program.

"A lot of people have been asking me how I’ve slimmed down lately so I just wanted to share that I’ve used the Optavia program," he wrote on Instagram in 2018. "I'm not being paid to say this and it should be noted that I think everybody is different and you should do whatever suits you but this is what I’m doing and I’m very happy with the results so far!"

Nothing is officially off limits on the diet, but it's not exactly a cake walk. The program restricts calories and advises its followers to buy special "fuelings" in order to shed pounds.

"It’s tricky to recommend restrictive diet plans like Optavia on the whole," says Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN. "While accountability and community are key components to any behavior change program, behavior modification with restrictive eating patterns sets some of us up for disordered eating habits and restrict–binge–restrict tendencies."

Here's what you need to know about Optivia before signing up:

What is Optavia?

Optavia is a weight loss or maintenance plan that prescribes eating a mix of purchased, processed food — called "fuelings" — and homemade "lean and green" meals. There's no counting carbs or calories. Instead, followers add water to powdered food or unwrap a bar as part of six-or-so mini meals per day. Optavia also offers guidance from coaches to help you learn their trademarked "Habits of Health." The plan additionally recommends doing about 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per day.

What do you eat on Optavia?

At least half of any Optavia diet is comprised of its "fuelings," which include bars, shakes, cookies, cereal, and some savory options, like soup and smashed potatoes. These processed foods often list soy protein or whey protein as the first ingredient.

Lean and green meals fill out the rest of the diet, which you buy and prepare on your own. Those include:

  • 5–7 ounces of cooked lean protein like fish, chicken, egg whites, turkey, or soy
  • 3 servings of non-starchy vegetables like lettuce, greens, celery, or cucumbers
  • Up to 2 servings of healthy fats like olive oil, olives, or avocado

How often do you eat on Optavia?

The Optavia advises eating six or seven times per day (about every two to three hours) depending on the plan. The three available plans are:

  • 5 & 1 Plan: Eat five Optavia fuelings and one "lean and green" meal per day
  • 4 & 2 & 1 Plan: Eat four Optavia fuelings, two "lean and green" meals, and one snack per day
  • 3 & 3 Plan: Eat three Optavia fuelings and three "lean and green" meals per day

Is the Optivia diet healthy?

The Optavia diet is what's considered a high-protein diet, with protein making up 10–35% of your daily calories. However, the processed, powdered kind can lead to some less-than-pleasant consequences.

"The protein isolate plus additives can make you feel bloated and have some other unwanted GI side effects, making you better off with unsweetened Greek yogurt for protein in a smoothie," London says.

Plus, the FDA does not regulate dietary supplements like shakes and powders for safety and efficacy the same way it does for food. "Powders and protein 'blends' may have undesirable ingredients, or could interact with a medication you may be taking," London adds, "making it extra important to make sure your physician is aware of you trying the plan."

How does Optavia help you lose weight?

Optavia relies on intensely restricting calories to promote weight loss. Most "fuelings" hover around 100–110 calories each, meaning you could take in around 1,000 calories per day on this diet.

Due to Optavia's dramatic approach, U.S. News and World Report ranked it #2 in its list of Best Fast Weight-Loss Diets, but #28 in its list of Best Diets for Healthy Eating. "Short term, it seems impossible not to shed at least some pounds; you're eating half the calories most adults consume," it said. "The long-term outlook is less promising."

London agrees that there's a better approach to lasting weight loss: "'Eating meals and snacks that incorporate loads of produce, 100% whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and pulses, low-fat dairy products, eggs, poultry, seafood, and lean beef plus some indulgences is the best way to lose weight sustainably for the long haul."

Is Optavia the same as Medifast?

Somewhat — Medifast Inc. is the parent company of Optavia.
